Pfeiffer Fido Easter Egg Hunt for Doggies

Saturday, April 13th  Program Time: 1-3 pm

The Easter Bunny hiding Easter Eggs for children is a tradition that has been around for generations.  Snoopy, the Easter Beagle, delivering Easter Eggs is a much more recent occurrence.  On April 13th, Lillibridge will be visited by the Easter Beagle to hide Easter Eggs not for children, but for his fellow four legged furry friends.  Bring your dog(s) with your family to enjoy this fun outdoor doggie event.  Walk the trails of Lillibridge with your pooch as the Easter Eggs with dog treats are smelled out of hiding.  This event will be held at:  Lillibridge Preserve, 1974 Lillibridge Road, Portville, NY 14770.  A $2 donation per dog would be greatly appreciated.  Registration is not required.  This program will be canceled in the event of rain.  All dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way funding.  Pfeiffer Nature Center where science, art & nature come together.

 

Art and Conservation 

Thursday, April 18th  Program Start Time:  6:30 pm  Program Length: 1 hour
Explore how visual art and conservation can benefit one another in this talk by Federal Duck Stamp artist Jennifer Miller. Jennifer will describe her experiences with the Federal Duck Stamp and share her passion for reaching out with her work to inspire the public to care about the natural world. Learn how a love of nature can blossom into a passion and an unusual, adventurous and rewarding, career! The Beauty of Bats

Thursday, April 25th    Start Time: 6:30 pm Program Length: 1.0 hr. 

While it is a fact that bats rank high on the list of disliked species, it is also a fact that bats are greatly misunderstood.   Bats are not the creepy, scary and vicious animals they are sometimes made out to be.  Folks who love animals know that all animals deserve to be treated with kindness and bats are no exception.  Join us for this entertaining and enlightening talk as we explore the world of bats.  We will discover how necessary, beneficial and wonderful bats are to have as neighbors.  This event is will be held at The Portville Free Library, 2 North Main Street, Portville, New York 14770.  This program is free and open to the public.   Minors must be accompanied by an adult.  Registration is not required.  Bat Boxes will be available at the program for a $15 donation.  Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way funding.  Pfeiffer Nature Center where science, art & nature come together.

Birding at Eshelman

Saturday, May 4th Start time: 8:30 am- Program length: 2 hrs.

If the sweet melodious trills of songbirds is music to your ear, you will not want to miss this bird walk through the wetland and scrub areas of Pfeiffer Nature Center’s Eshelman Preserve.  A well-known location for regional birders, the preserve hosts a multitude of migratory and resident birds.  Visitors may see and/or hear dozens of species that frequent the area as they walk along grassy, gentle trails.  The guided walk starts in the parking lot and will be led by Tim Baird, President of the Cattaraugus County Bird Study Club.  The group will slowly walk through the property noting what they see and or hear.  Conversation is kept to a minimum as this is an observational activity.  Effort is made not to disturb the wildlife in order to create optimal viewing conditions.  Please bring binoculars if you have them.  No pets please.  This activity is free and open to the public.  Donations are gratefully accepted.  Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Annual Spring Trail Clearing and Clean up Event at Pfeiffer Nature Center 

Saturday, May 11th, Start Time: 10 am  Event Length: 4 hrs. 

Spring is here and we are ready to do some spring cleaning at Pfeiffer Nature Center! You can show appreciation for nature by assisting at our annual trail clearing and cleanup event.  It is the perfect way to enjoy the woods while helping to keep our grounds and trails well maintained and accessible.  This activity is free and open to the public and is best designed for ages 10 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Trail clearing tools will be available, but please feel free to bring your own. The Power of Native Plants

Thursday, May 23rd    Start Time: 6;30 pm  Program Length: 1.0 hr.

“When a flower isn’t just a flower: Have you ever felt powerless to make positive ecological change? Have you ever thought about how powerful our native plants can be?  Anyone with a yard or even a small outdoor space can make a huge impact by planting native species! Learn about the pitfalls of lawns, the benefits of native plants, and how to help wildlife in any yard (even in cities), with presenter Jennifer Miller. Jennifer will speak about some of the challenges our wildlife faces today and how even small changes in how we garden and maintain our yards can have huge impacts.
