February

Exploring Winter!

Saturday, February 2nd  Start Time: 10 am.  Program Length: 1.5 hrs.

Shake off the winter blues by spending some time out in nature!  Blue skies and snow covered trails are the perfect setting for a hike about Lillibridge.  Bring your own snowshoes or borrow a pair of traditional, wooden bear paw snowshoes from us when you visit Pfeiffer Nature Center’s winter wonderland.  This walk is for both the novice and advanced alike.  If there is no snow, join us for a winter stroll among the trees in the old growth forest. The program will be canceled if we are experiencing extreme weather conditions.  This event will be held at:  Lillibridge Preserve, 1974 Lillibridge Road, Portville, NY 14770.  This program is FREE to the public.  There is no fee to borrow traditional snowshoes but they are in limited supply so contact Pfeiffer Nature Center to reserve your pair by Thursday, January 31st.  The traditional snowshoes are one size fits all and are recommended for ages 13 and up.  Minors must be accompanied by an adult.  To register, click on “Register for our Programs online” above or contact the office at 716-933-0187.  Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way funding.  Pfeiffer Nature Center where science, art & nature come together.

Bluebird Nest Box and Bug Hotel Building

Saturday, February 16th Program Start Time:  10 am-11 am OR 11 am-12 noon

Program length: 1 hour per time slot

Spring is just around the corner which means our wild animal friends will soon be looking to start new families.  If you would like to attract wildlife to your yard join us in building a bluebird box or a bug hotel or BOTH!  If you love birds, you should also love bugs!  Insects are the diet plan for all baby birds.  Build a bug hotel to provide a food source for your feathered friends.  Nature enthusiasts Tim Baird and Mike Ermer will be on hand to answer questions about these amazing animals.  Craftsmen Joe Leo and Craig Myers will lead the construction activities. This program will take place at the Home Depot, Olean.   Preregistration is required and can be done through Pfeiffer Nature Center by 4 pm, Thursday, February 14th.  Reservations are limited and are on a “first come first serve basis”.  Program fee: $10 per bird nest box or bug hotel and group of builders (1-3 participants per group).  Children must be accompanied by adults.  To register, click on “Register for our Programs online” above or contact the office at 716-933-0187.  Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way funding.  Pfeiffer Nature Center where science, art & nature come together.
