A Look at Glacial Impacts on Cattaraugus County.

Thursday June 13th   Start Time: 6:30 pm  Program Length: 1.0 hr.

We are very fortunate to live in a part of New York State that is filled with beautiful hills and valleys.  Have you ever given much thought to the glaciers which helped to create our natural scenery?   Whether you have or have not, here is an opportunity to learn more!  Join nature enthusiast Tim Baird for a discussion of the late stages of the Wisconsin Glacial Episode in the county and how it has created the natural features that we see today.  This program will examine photographs of some the county’s land forms that illustrate the glacial impact which completed its work approximately 11,000 years ago.  To bring this lecture to life, Tim will also host a field trip on Thursday, June 27th so we can visit some glacial areas and see firsthand the amazing power and influence of nature.  You are not required to attend the glacier lecture in order to attend the field trip but we are hoping you will have the interest and ability to attend both!  Fee:  Free for members, $5 for non-members and free for children 13 and under.  Minors must be accompanied by an adult. This event will be held at the Chestnut Cabin at Pfeiffer Nature Center, Lillibridge Preserve, 1974 Lillibridge Road, Portville, NY 14770.  Please register by 4 pm, Tuesday June 11th.  To register, click on “Register for our programs on line” above or contact the office at 716-933-0187.    Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way funding.  Pfeiffer Nature Center where science, art & nature come together.

Pfeiffer Nature Center Field Trip-A Look at Glacial Impacts on Cattaraugus County

Thursday, June 27th  Departure Time: 9am  Return Time: 4 pm

Pfeiffer Nature Center is sponsoring a field trip to the western part of Cattaraugus County to examine unique glacier areas with nature guide, Tim Baird.  This field trip will involve a full day excursion via carpooling to visit some of the county’s land forms which were created by glaciers during the Wisconsin Glacial Episode. This field trip is a follow up to the glacier program held on June 27th. You are not required to attend the glacier lecture in order to attend the field trip but we are hoping you will have the interest and ability to attend both!   Walking will be fairly easy, but be sure to wear proper footwear such as sneakers or day hikers.  Please bring your own lunch.  The Nature Center will provide coolers with ice and water if refrigeration is needed.  Space in our car pool is limited so reserve your seat today!  Details on carpool locations will be shared following registration.  The reservation deadline is 4 pm Monday, June 24th.  The fee is $20 per person which includes carpooling fees.  To register, click on “Register for our programs on line” above or contact the office at 716-933-0187.    Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way funding.  Pfeiffer Nature Center where science, art & nature come together.
