Pfeiffer Nature Center’s 2021 Photo Contest and Show- Save the Date!!!

Visit Pfeiffer Nature Center and start snapping your photos!

Pfeiffer Nature Center is excited to announce the return of our photo contest and show.  Get ready to create some beautiful and interesting images at the Pfeiffer Nature Center properties!  We invite photographers of all skill levels and ages to visit one or both of these properties to share their personal visual takeaways in a Photography Contest & Show on September 19th, 2021.  Yes, that’s right- 2021!  We are promoting this event in advance to give us all the opportunity to create photographs during any or all of the four seasons!  Photos from Pfeiffer properties, no matter when they were taken, are eligible for submission.  Pfeiffer locations include the Lillibridge property: 1974 Lillibridge Road, Portville NY and the Eshelman Property: 1420 Yubadam Road, Portville, NY.  The Contest/Show Event will be held at the Lillibridge chestnut cabin on Sunday, September 19th, 2021.  Please visit our website www.pfeiffernaturecenter.org for details and a submission application.  Photographs must be submitted by August 27th, 2021.   Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way Funding.  Pfeiffer Nature Center where science, art & nature come together.

6th Annual New Year’s Day Hike for your Health Friday, January 1st Hike Start Time: 10 am    Hike Length: 1 hr.

“Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass.  It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” 

I think we can all agree that putting 2020 behind us will bring a collective sigh of relief.  Happily, we have hope and opportunity ahead in 2021.  What better way to celebrate the beginning of a new year than to spend a little time in nature.  If you would like to share in a bit of safe, communal inspiration, then join us on our 6th annual winter’s day hike at Pfeiffer Nature Center!  This hike will take place at the Lillibridge Preserve, 1974 Lillibridge Rd., Portville.  The hike is free to the public but pre-registration is required. Because of COVID safety measures, social distancing and masks covering your mouth and nose are required.  Group sizes will be limited to 10 participants.  Reserve your space(s) by e-mailing:  naturalist@pfeiffernaturecenter.org., or calling the office 716-933-0187 by Tuesday, December 29th.  Please include a contact phone number with your reservation.  You will be contacted to confirm your reservation.  In the event of freezing rain or extreme temperatures, this program will be canceled.  If the weather appears questionable, look for a cancellation notice on the top of our website home page.  Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way Funding. Pfeiffer Winter Seasonal Activity Kit for Kids Order your kits Monday, January 18th through Monday, January 25th

Are you are looking for a way to engage your child in an outdoor activity?  Pfeiffer Nature Center has created the perfect opportunity.  Seasonal Activity Kits for Kids is a great way to enjoy time with your child out in nature.  Kits will contain seasonally themed activities that can be done at the nature center properties as well as at home.  An educational nature walk, activity sheets and crafts are just a few examples of what the kits contain. 

A new kit will be developed for each season so you can have a special adventure at Pfeiffer Nature Center year round.  Kits are first come first serve, limited in number and may vary in price between seasons.  These kits are created for your child to keep so materials will not be returned.  Kit materials will be handled following COVID regulations. The winter activity kit has an outdoor explore planned for you at the Lillibridge property- 1974 Lillibridge Road, Portville.  

The winter kits are $3 each and can be purchased on line by clicking on “Register for our Programs on line” above.  Order your child’s kit(s) beginning Monday, January 18th through Monday, January 25th.  Kits will be made available for pick up Friday, January 29th through Saturday, February 20th.  We will contact you to confirm your kit reservation and to share pick up times and location.  The winter kit includes a couple of activity sheets celebrating Ground Hog’s Day, which is Tuesday, February 2nd and the kits may be enjoyed by most ages.  Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way Funding.  Pfeiffer Nature Center where science, art & nature come together. 

Children’s Storybook Trail at Lillibridge

Beginning Friday, January 29th through the month of February

Join us once again at the Lillibridge Property for a new storybook adventure along our Storybook Reading Trail for the young readers in your life.  Read the tale The Night Before Groundhog Day on the Interpretive Trail ( Griffin’s Way– an easy, .36 mi round trip trail) as you wander through our old growth hemlock forest.  The storybook pages are held in place by our gentle giants for you to read as you pass by.  Be sure to read both sides of the tree!  See our map at the Lillibridge kiosk to find where your adventure begins.  The book will be available beginning Friday, January 29th through the month of February and although the book is a great kick off to celebrate Groundhog Day on February 2nd, it is a fun read whenever you choose to visit.  The Lillibridge Property is located at 1974 Lillibridge Road, Portville, NY.  We would love for you to share pictures and let us know how you enjoyed your visit by e-mailing naturalist@pfeiffernaturecenter.org  Enjoy the wonderful outdoors! Winter Snowshoe/Hike at Pfeiffer!!! 

Saturday, February 6th Start Time: 10 am  Program Length: 1 hr.

Clear your mind and warm your heart by spending some time out in nature!  Blue skies and snow covered trails are the perfect setting for a hike about Lillibridge.  Bring your own snowshoes or borrow a pair of traditional, wooden bear paw snowshoes from us when you visit Pfeiffer Nature Center’s winter wonderland.  This hike is for both the novice and advanced alike.  If there is no snow, join us for a winter stroll along the trails through field and forest.  The program will be canceled if we are experiencing extreme weather conditions. This hike will take place at the Lillibridge Preserve, 1974 Lillibridge Rd., Portville NY.  The event is free to the public but pre-registration is required.  Because of COVID safety measures, social distancing and masks covering your mouth and nose are required.  Group sizes will be limited to 10 participants.  Reserve your space(s) by e-mailing:  naturalist@pfeiffernaturecenter.org., or calling the office 716-933-0187 by Tuesday, February 2nd.  Please include a contact phone number with your reservation and let us know if you would like to borrow snowshoes and the number of pairs.  You will be contacted to confirm your reservation.   The traditional snowshoes are one size fits all and are recommended for ages 13 and up.  Minors must be accompanied by an adult.  Pfeiffer Nature Center is supported by United Way funding.  Pfeiffer Nature Center where science, art & nature come together.
